If you purchased Newton prior to October 2014, update it to latest-generation “Newton 5” performance!

For older-generation Newton owners, the Newton 5 Upgrade key adds five exclusive features that upgrade your Newton to incredible “Newton 5” performance:

1) User Configurable Screens

With the Newton 5 Upgrade key, one of our most-requested features is added to your Newton!  Use ISAAC 3.0 to select the fields you’d like to display on your Newton’s screen; your Newton responds accordingly.  Simple, easy, personal…

2) Dynamic Power Smoothing

When you train with power you want your power display to show smooth numbers during long intervals, yet respond instantly to power surges when you sprint.  These two, seemingly contradictory demands are perfectly met by Dynamic Power Smoothing, an innovative feature exclusive to Newton 5.

Watch this video that shows how Dynamic Power Smoothing works, head-to-head against traditional power smoothing methods used by the Garmin 810:  http://youtu.be/gcD_dAMCzHM

3) Automatic Profile Selection

Automatic Profile Selection makes it brain-dead easy to move your Newton 5 from bike-to-bike.  No buttons to push, no “profile numbers” to remember.  The Newton 5 automatically figures out which bike you’re on…you just ride.  Watch APS in action in this short video: http://youtu.be/5lEcRAkLXME

4) Send Newton Power to ANT+ bike computer (“GT”)

Own a Garmin or other ANT+ bike computer?  With Newton 5, your Newton power is transmitted automatically to any ANT+ bike computer!

5) Simplified Setup and Calibration

Newton 5 lets you select between good/better/best accuracy, with always-great power consistency!  Newton 5 makes using a power meter literally as simple as hopping on your bike and riding.  Or, refine your setup with ISAAC software, or dial-in your Newton for maximum accuracy with an optional Cal Ride.  The choice is yours!

ISAAC version 3.0 software is improved, too!

New, ISAAC 3.0 software was designed specifically for Newton 5.  With Newton 5 installed, you’ll get access to all of ISAAC 3.0 innovations, including simplified setup and calibration, customized profile editing, user-configurable display screens, and more.

Newton 5 Upgrade Key is compatible with any iBike Newton manufactured prior to October 2014.

No matter which older-generation Newton you own, the Newton 5 upgrade key will give your unit state-of-the art performance.

FW is perfect but for the inclusion of the date time reset on the device setup.

I have supported this company’s technology in regards to its power meters since its inception. I am extremely impressed at not only the technology that is utilized by the IBike line of products but even more importantly its exceptional customer support when issues arise. However, I am confused why we are asked to pay for upgrades that I don’t consider “game changers” The features that were part of this “upgrade” did not , in my opinion justify the additional cost to implement. I understand that development has a cost associated with it, however for the long term growth of your customer base it falls into the category of being regarded as “shortsightedness”. I see very little benefit to getting this “upgrade” at the $49.99 price cost. Truthfully if I never got the upgrade I would never have felt a consequential change in how I view the “Newton” that I currently use. I acknowledge that I am not an expert to your technology, but from a customer standpoint I think your upgrade left me wondering “Why did I even get this? I say this because the features you included into the “Newton” would naturally be introduced into the product as a result of the market determining a need for these features as a natural by-product of features already provided by the “Newton”. In my opinion this product may have the capacity to polarize some of your customers if they see little “real world” benefit for the new features provided at the additional cost. I for one will examine the real benefit to cost ratio in future upgrades your company introduces.

    :

Super easy first time set up. Converting older user to new version 5 is still a bit computer technical. Suggestion: Interval timing average speed reflects the entire ride whereas I feel that it should be an average speed of THAT INTERVAL

    :

works really well! upgrades and improvements are consistently appropriate and relatively straightforward to apply

The Newton 5 is an excellent riding companion. It gives me all the metrics I need plus temperature and other nice to have info. It is easy to set up and the new auto sync feature for multiple bike profiles is a welcome addition.

The Software Key was easy to install. Simply download the new Isaac software and enter the key number supplied by ibikesports.com. Then download the new version 5 firmware for the Newton. Version 5 firmware has two worthwhile enhancements – dynamic power smoothing and automatic profile detection. Dynamic Power Smoothing makes the displayed wattage reading much more stable than with version 4 firmware. With version 4 firmware, I found that I used the heartrate data more than the wattage display because the heartrate was more stable. The automatic profile detection makes it easy to switch your Newton from one bike to another. Simply do a trip reset after switching bikes (make sure you are far from your other bike) and the Newton will detect which bike you are riding and set the correct profile.

    :

The Newton 5 and Isaac software are fantastic products. The Newton works great showing power with the new Dynamic Power Filtering. The automatic profile is a nice feature when changing meter to the TT bike. The calibration process is a piece of cake for new users. This is an amazing piece of technology and no need to spend a lot of cash on a DFPM. I’m not quite convinced on the Powerstroke and have spent many frustrating hours with it. Shutting off this feature for awhile. Great customer support from this company.

    :

This upgrade was definitely worth the price. The DS feature is most important to me but if I decide to create another profile for my tandem the auto select feature will be very handy as well. I’m still playing around the screen programming and will probably settle for the default setting but it’s nice to change it if one wishes.

    :

This upgrade is worth the price. But I would like more options to choose from for the second screen on my iBike Newton.

  10. 4 out of 5

    :

I am convinced of two things about the Newton, it’s the best tool for the money and it works. I have tested and compared over a dozen plus rides the Newton power calculations with a direct force rear wheel output and frankly the Newton is basically no difference between the two. Except to see the rear wheel output you have to spend as much as a basic Newton for a head unit.

The dynamic smoothing of version 5 works well and seems to prevent the fluctuations when peddling down hill.

My advice; if you’re serious about bike fitness and love to get the most out of each ride, buy this product!

  11. 4 out of 5

    :

Everything went smoothly with my Newton 5 upgrade – no hitches, profiles preserved, reliable operation. I bought the upgrade mostly to stay current with the software and receive ongoing updates.

I think that “Dynamic Power Smoothing” is nice, but that wasn’t my reason to upgrade. So that’s why 4 stars instead of 5 . . . the upgrade works just fine, but there isn’t a big gain in functionality, for m.e

    :

I have used the Newton 4 for the past year and have recently upgraded the Newton to version 5. I find the Version 5 a big improvement. I particularly like the ability to customize the two screens to better fit my needs and most importantly the feature that allows me to switch bikes quickly and easily – I now have one set up for my city/commuter bike and another for my road bike and the ability of Newton to recognize which bike its attached to automatically is great!

    :

Now that I have had time to ride a bit with the upgraded software I think it meets the level that one should expect from a power meter. The auto bike identification feature is great makes changing the ibike between bikes even easier than before. Nice update.

    :

I have been an Ibike owner since Version 1. every hardware, software update has brought more features and easier to use.
I like the new customization option of the screens. I have however reverted back to the default since it does meet my needs best. I am sure here will be more options to customize the screens as the product gets better.
The auto profile, no more tilt is definitely a plus.
There is however one thing I find annoying when I get on my bike the first thing I change is the altitude and it is not the first option in the menu there is a whole list of things in there I don’t care about. make altitude the default on entering the config menu and I will beyond happy

    :

Great update.. Bike switching works great and compatibility with other products also the response for questions was great specifically with Tom.
Will recommend the update to everyone I know that has an ibike

    :

My first impression is good. I bought it mainly to have the power reading on my Garmin. A pitty that we cannot configure training zones in the Newton, as far as I know everybody uses the concept and It’s easier to read a zone than read a power value and translate it. Something that could be considered as an improvement for the next software version.
Power smoothing is better now, I feel more comfortable with it regarding the previous version. Don’t know how it works but looks more aligned with what my legs are doing.

Great job ibike! This upgrade takes the newton to a whole new level! Thanks

I appreciate the fact that continued improvements are made to the Newton and updates are regularly posted and available for download

    :

upgrade allows only some customization of the screen– cannot alter the format of the screen– still just 3 panels and the bottom panel is not customizable except with couple of choice. that being said, I still am pleased with the Newton. the upgrades work flawlessly and newest Isaac is great as well.

This just makes a great product better.

    :

I delayed getting the 5 update as there was really nothing in it that I could not live without. Finally it was offered at a discount and one of my buddies got it so I decided to give it a try.

The only feature that I really was interested in was the ability to rearrange the metrics on the screen. Truthfully I expected more variability. For example, I always wanted the power reading in the top slot but then there is really nothing that meets my needs for the middle screen.
IMO, all screens should be available in all positions.

The ability to automatically switch profiles does not work as easily as I expected. I find myself just changing it manually as in the past.

I didn’t need the simplified set up but I can appreciate it for anyone new to the device.

I can’t say that I have really noticed any difference with the power smoothing. I know how it works but it just is not too obvious.

Just waiting to see what updates are coming long as they do come along.

I downloaded the upgrade for my Newton 4 to Newton 5. I was amazed at the improvements. Especially the dynamic power smoothing on the display. It’s now much easier to maintain a power range during workouts.

    :

Loving the DPS display for power, never use anything else, and the profile auto select is working really well for me.

Also got ANT+ support enabled, so combined with my old Garmin 705 I’m sorted.

Just wish my power numbers were bigger!
